2019 – 2020 May have been a challenging year, but this did not stop The Ethembeni School from working with the KZN Department to bring The Ethembeni School an incredible new VI Library.
The VI Library was officially opened by the MEC of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation – Ms Hlengiwe Mavimbela.
The NEW Ethembeni School VI Library was one of 32 Libraries which were launched by the Department in KZN. The Library is open to those who are blind or visually impaired in the community as well as The Ethembeni School Learners. Looking back on the history of The Ethembeni School, we are reminded of where we started. A school for the visually impaired that has grown to cater for so many more learners.
This kind of donation from the Department will truly create a difference in not our learners’ lives but those who are visually impaired in our community. The ability to interpret literature is one of humanities most valuable skills. It allows us to teach ourselves, putting our education in our own hands and empowering us to do better every day for ourselves and others.
Visual impermeant is a formidable challenge for our learners, and we believe that the incredible new facilities we have been afforded are going to make a significant difference in their lives. A huge increase in quality of learning has already taken place and we are moving steadily to exponentially increase reading drive in our learners.
At The Ethemebeni School, we believe that “Readers are Leaders”, and it is the opportunity that comes with new equipment that catapults our learners forward, into becoming the best versions of themselves possible.
We would like to once again thank The Department & MEC of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation – Ms Hlengiwe Mavimbela. Your kind donations will be treasured forever.
